The Minister of Industry and Commerce has promised the manufacturing sector more incentives in a move aimed at increasing capacity.
Minister Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndhlovu said this during his first company visit of 2026.
The Minister toured Steel and Pump Engineering and Supplies a Bulawayo based company that is manufacturing iron and steel products such as window frames, door frames, IBR roofing sheets amongst others. Pump and Steel is an indigenous company established in 1999.
Under the Second Republic, Pump and Steel has reinvented itself with the times and invested in new machinery. Today, Pump and Steel employs over 350 Zimbabweans who are skilled and semi-skilled.
The production of iron and steel products coming from Dinson Iron and Steel Company has revived works in the iron and steel value chain as witnessed by the progress being made at Pump and Steel. For a number of years, Pump and Steel has been importing raw materials from South Africa and China. Today they buy most of their raw materials from Dinson Iron and Steel.
In this regard, Hon Minister Ndhlovu promised Industry that policy shall continue to protect interests of the manufacturing sector. Minister Ndhlovu said there is a need to catch up at policy level on a number of areas.
Pump and Steel has three workshops in Bulawayo and expected to expand further.
Kudos to Pump and Steel for the great work
