The Permanent Secretary for Industry and Commerce, Dr. T.U. Wushe, met with commercial tyre importers to discuss tyre imports, road safety, and building a competitive local industry.
Dr. Wushe emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to Vision 2030, ensuring safe and affordable transport, investment promotion, and resilient industries that support infrastructure and economic diversification.
Dr. Wushe added, “It is worth noting that as we move towards attainment of Vision 2030, the import bill must be reduced, promoting local manufacturers, a key driver in job creation and contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”
He called for collaboration in exploring local tyre manufacturing, retreading, supply-chain diversification, and targeted tariff reforms as part of the upcoming National Budget.
“Our dialogue today is about practical solutions that create jobs, strengthen our motor industry, and drive Zimbabwe closer to an upper middle-income economy by 2030.”
As the nation continues to industrialise, the demand for tyres across key sectors such as mining, transport, medical, and construction is rising rapidly.
